For The Pilates Girlies | Pilates Bawdy Challenge
This one is for the Pilates Girlies, and the Aspiring Pilates Girlies… (a special treat below)
2025 has FINALLY been the year of movement for me.
Over the years, I’ve been semi-consistent with keeping an exercise regimen and this year I finally cracked the code!
I’ve tried going to the gym, I’ve tried cycling (1 time and never again), I’ve tried jump roping, hula hooping, at-home cardio, and at-home dance fitness. All great ways to move your body, but none of them were for me. I was never able to motivate myself to stick with these for longer than a few months. And then a few years ago, I tried at-home mat Pilates and eventually Pilates reformer classes (shout out to ClassPass).
Pilates truly changed the game for me.
I finally found an exercise I truly enjoyed! I love the origin story and principles, the emphasis on listening to your body, and how quickly you see real results.
Never really looked into Pilates? Here’s a little history:
Pilates was created by Joseph Pilates, who was born in Germany in the late 1800s. As a child, he struggled with asthma, rickets, and rheumatic fever. These ailments were his motivation for dedicating himself to building strength and resilience. He became a skilled gymnast, diver, and boxer, and developed a deep passion for physical conditioning.
In 1912, he moved to England, working as a circus performer and self-defense instructor. During World War I, he was interned in a camp with other German nationals, where he began teaching his fellow internees exercises to stay fit. Later, while working in a hospital, he attached springs to beds to help injured patients move their limbs (this was the starting point for what we now know as the Pilates reformer).
After the war, Joe and his wife Clara moved to New York and opened a body-conditioning studio in 1926. Their method (then called Contrology) quickly caught on, especially among dancers who used it to recover from injury and improve their technique. While Joe created the foundation, Clara was the nurturing teacher who helped evolve the practice to fit individual needs.
"A few well designed movements, properly performed in a balanced sequence are worth hours of doing sloppy exercise or forced contortion"
- Joseph Pilates
At its heart, Pilates is rooted in mind-body connection, built on six principles: Breath, Concentration, Centering, Control, Precision, and Flow.
Pretty cool right? I think so. And the result don’t lie.
Anyways, I didn’t become consistent overnight. I actually learned about this BINGO Goal Tracking Method and I think it might be one of the most helpful things I’ve found on TikTok lol. I’ll dive into the method at a later time but, with it, I’ve been way more motivated to be consistent with not only Pilates, but all of my other goals for this year.
So, to maintain my consistency, give myself variety, and also to spread my love for Pilates :) I’ve created a little At-Home Pilates Workout Challenge (No Equipment Needed) for the Month of May with links to videos by my favorite Pilates Girlies on YouTube!
